° 1951
Born in Brussels (Belgium).
The work of Belgian artist Didier Vermeiren [°1951] is richly textured and touches upon a broad range of concepts and ideas, but perhaps the one overarching concern in his practice is that of the relationship between pedestal or plinth and sculpture – between the work of art and the institutional conditions of its apparition, that which Jacques Derrida named “the parergon”. In this sense, his work clearly embodies the more intellectualist strand within the eighties’ 'retour à la sculpture'.
