In de verschillende hoeken en kanten van de structuur zijn ingrepen van de kunstenaar geplaatst, waaronder video's, bierblikjes, spiegels, luidsprekers en groene lampen.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eUitgangspunt voor het werk was een vertaling van Kafka’s \u003ci\u003eDe Metamorfose\u003c/i\u003e, die tot stand kwam zonder woordenboek of enige kennis van de Duitse taal. In \u003ci\u003eBefore Before\u003c/i\u003e verbergen een reeks aan elkaar geklonken multiplexplaten scènes verborgen in de hoeken, terwijl een griezelige soundtrack de kreten vertolkt van Prouvosts verloren, dronken hoofdrolspelers, Betty en Gregor. Taal, en hoe betekenis kan wegglijden of verkeerd geïnterpreteerd wordt, staat centraal in de praktijk van de kunstenaar. De verdraaide verhaallijnen van 'Before Before' vormen een uitdaging voor ons vermogen om betekenis te vormen. De kakofonie van geluiden, beelden en objecten die Prouvost creëert zijn surreëel: in een hoek heeft een inktvis, die werd gebruikt als schrijfinstrument, een inktregen op de muur achtergelaten, terwijl borden ons het bevel geven 'kijk' of ‘merk de drie vliegende groenten op’.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn \u003ci\u003eBefore Before\u003c/i\u003e verschijnen Betty en Gregor, hoofdpersonages van Laure Prouvosts’ langspeelfilm \u003ci\u003eThe Wanderer\u003c/i\u003e, voor de eerste keer. De installatie is opgezet als een doolhof in een waas van groen licht, rondslingerende objecten, korte video’s en het geluid van een wanhopig schreeuwende, dronken Betty. De installatie lijkt te anticiperen op een reis naar de diepste krochten van de menselijke psyché.
