Literary synopsis
Hoping to heal from a lifelong heartbreak and escape everlasting memories, Odette Saudemont, well in her sixties, decides to move to the South of France. There she finds, to her surprise, a Dutch edition of Turgenjev's First Love at a dingy bouquiniste near Béziers. The unfortunate Odette immediately recognises the book. She gave it long ago to her first, only and very dangerous love Winnie, her sweet hijacker of hard cash and silly tinkling girl's hearts. Against her better judgment, Odette starts a search for her tormentor, an odyssey past innumerable towns and hamlets in the Langedoc.
