In the opening act, we see spectators filling a stand to watch a rocket launch together. The seemingly banal gossip of the crowd actually follows a written score, based on field research in the region around the Ulytau region, Kazakhstan, in the fall zones of the rockets. Here, the Baikonur Cosmodrome — the largest rocket launch site in the world and one of the former-Soviet Union’s most expensive infrastructure projects — causes physical and ecological damage by releasing toxic substances into the wider region. Next, we meet a historical figure speculated on by a Soviet journalist, Nikifor Nikitin, a labourer who was supposedly exiled to Baikonur in 1848 for inciting the people to flee the rule of Tsar Nicholas I by flying to the moon. In the third act, we end up at a Karaoke duet sung between Omar Khayam and Nasirdin AlTusi, astronomers from the 12th and 13th centuries, hosted by the fictional Chinese infrastructure company Skybridge Unlimited. Their lyrics in fact discussing the variable luminosity of Polaris. Finally, we board the MIR space station, where cos - monaut Sergei Krikalev who was stranded in space for 313 days following the collapse of the Soviet Union — providing him with the moniker “The Last Soviet” — and whose mission was launched from… the Baikonur Cosmodrome. Daar zorgt de Kosmodroom van Baikonour — de grootste raketlanceerplaats ter wereld en een van de duurste infrastructuurprojecten van de voormalige Sovjet-Unie — door het vrijkomen van giftige stoffen in de brede omgeving voor lichamelijke en ecologische schade. Vervolgens maken we kennis met een door de Sovjetpropaganda verzonnen historische figuur: Nikifor Nikitin, een arbeider die in 1848 naar Baikonour zou zijn verbannen omdat hij het volk had opgehitst voor de heerschappij van de tsaar te vluchten naar de maan. In de derde act belanden we op een karaokefeest van het fictieve Chinese infrastructuurbedrijf Skybridge Unlimited. Daar wordt een duet gezongen tussen Omar Khayam en Nasirdin Al-Tusi, astronomen uit de 12de en 13de eeuw. Tenslotte gaan we aan boord van ruimtestation MIR waar kosmonaut Sergei Krikalev 313 dagen vastzat als gevolg van logistieke problemen na de ineenstorting van Sovjet-Unie, wat hem de bijnaam ‘de laatste der Sovjets’ opleverde. Le bavardage apparemment banal de la foule suit en fait une partition écrite, basée sur des recherches de terrain dans la région d’Ulytau, au Kazakhstan, dans les zones de chute des fusées. Ici, le cosmodrome de Baïkonour — le plus grand site de lancement de fusées au monde et l’un des projets d’infrastructure les plus coûteux de l’ex-Union soviétique — cause des dommages physiques et écologiques dans toute la région par la libération de substances toxiques. Ensuite, on voit un personnage historique hypothétique, né de la plume d’un journaliste soviétique: Nikifor Nikitin, un ouvrier qui aurait été exilé à Baïkonour en 1848 pour avoir incité le peuple à fuir le pouvoir du tsar Nicolas Ier en s’envolant vers la Lune. Le troisième acte nous donne à voir un duo sur la luminosité variable de Polaris, accueilli par Skybridge Unlimited, une société chinoise fictive dans le domaine des infrastructures, où Omar Khayam et Nasirdin Al-Tusi, des astronomes des XIIe et XIIIe siècles, chantent en karaoké. Et pour finir, nous montons à bord de la station spatiale MIR, où le cosmonaute Sergei Krikalev est resté coincé 313 jours après l’effondrement de l’Union soviétique — ce qui lui a valu le surnom de « dernier soviétique\u0026nbsp;» — et dont la mission a été lancée depuis… le cosmo - drome de Baïkonour.
