Guy Rombouts

1985

Installation, (l) 1700 cm.
Materials: mixed media

Collection: Collection M HKA, Antwerp / Collection Flemish Community (Inv. no. BK5220_M33).

Guy Rombouts is a fanatical collector of all kinds of objects and materials. He continually explores the delicate nature of found – often natural – materials, using them to explore the sculptural possibilities for his script. In this way, he makes his language tangible, and investigates the link between form and content, sign and meaning. In this installation, X of Y, his feeling for materials is prominently displayed. He presents a three-dimensional display of the letters X and Y. In the Azart (the alternative lettering system developed by Guy Rombouts and Monica Droste) these letters are actually replaced by a straight line, referring to the X or Y axis.

About M HKA / Mission Statement

The M HKA is a museum for contemporary art, film and visual culture in its widest sense. It is an open place of encounter for art, artists and the public. The M HKA aspires to play a leading role in Flanders and to extend its international profile by building upon Antwerp's avant-garde tradition. The M HKA bridges the relationship between artistic questions and wider societal issues, between the international and the regional, artists and public, tradition and innovation, reflection and presentation. Central here is the museum's collection with its ongoing acquisitions, as well as related areas of management and research.
