Literary synopsis *De Hunnen* is an autobiographical novel that shows the reader a side of Jan Cremer different than that of the *Ik, Jan Cremer* trilogy. Set in the author’s childhood during the World War II, the novel is a stand against war violence, and it is razor-sharp but also touching portrait of a war generation. Sex and violence, power and humiliation, are told in a strange mixture of fantasy and actual memories, stylistically ranging between excited pamphlet language, bouquet-series romance, porn-clichés and simple, pure descriptions from the childhood.
