The communication between the men and the woman is entirely non-verbal, creating a series of silent tableaux. A Freudian symbol of the female sexuality that men desire, the ship causes the male characters to behave perversely around the woman, forcing her to engage in poses that resemble those seen in pornographic films. In front of the cameraman, their posturing is disembodied and awkward. Perhaps read as a comment on the normalization of hetero-normative gender roles, *The Frigate* considers the violent and dehumanised body in mass media. Also shown in the exhibition is the main prop in the video, the model ship, as well as a series of photographs of its different profiles. \r\n\r\nThe organ music soundtrack is by Eric Thys who also appears in the video (and is available to purchase as a vinyl record at the M HKAshop)."},{"locale":"nl","short_description":"","description":"Zoals in de twee voorgaande films speelt *The Frigate* zich af in een buurthuis waar een groep mannen, een vrouw en een cameraman betrokken zijn bij een vreemd scenario, dat draait rond het model van een zwart schip. De communicatie tussen de mannen en de vrouw is volledig non-verbaal en creëert zo een reeks stille tableaus. Het schip is een freudiaans symbool van de vrouwelijke seksualiteit waar mannen naar verlangen. Het zorgt ervoor dat de mannelijke personages zich rondom de vrouw pervers gedragen, waarbij ze haar dwingen te participeren in poses die lijken op houdingen uit pornografische films. Tegenover de cameraman komen ze als wezenloos voor. We kunnen *The Frigate* misschien lezen als een commentaar op de normalisering van hetero-normatieve genderrollen. Tegelijk is de film een reflectie op het gewelddadige en ontmenselijkte lichaam in de massamedia.\r\n\r\nDe orgelmuziek van de soundtrack werd gemaakt door Erik Thys, die ook een rol speelt in de video. Symbole freudien de la sexualité féminine et du désir masculin, le bateau provoque chez les hommes un comportement pervers envers la femme, qu’ils forcent à prendre des poses dignes de films pornographiques. Face à la caméra, ils paraissent hébétés. On pourrait lire *The Frigate* comme un commentaire sur la codification hétéronormée des rôles liés au genre. Il s’agit par ailleurs d’une réflexion sur le corps violent et déshumanisé tel qu’il apparaît dans les médias de masse. \r\n\r\nLa bande-son est une composition pour orgue d’Erik Thys. Ce dernier apparaît également dans la vidéo.
