It is the story of a journey to East Germany in spring, to Poland and Ukraine in summer, and on to Moscow in winter.\r\nIn the resulting 25-part video installation, D'Est: au bord de la fiction, the documentary footage is grouped in eight triptychs according to certain formally harmonious patterns. On a concluding 25th screen, the filmmaker can be heard, talking off-screen about the project's motives.\r\nD'Est contains all the ingredients that make it Akerman's best known work in the film/video installation art genre: the interplay between documentary and fiction; travelling shots versus static shots; an interest in the aesthetics of time and duration; clinical observation and atmospheric musings; portraits of landscapes, cities and people, many of them seen waiting.\r\n"},{"locale":"nl","short_description":"","description":"Vertrekpunt van D’Est zijn de reizen die Chantal Akerman van 1991 tot 1993 maakte naar Centraal- en Oost-Europa, net na de val van de Berlijnse muur. Akermans reisverhaal begint in de lente in Oost-Duitsland en leidt haar via de zomer in Polen en Oekraïne tot een winters Moskou.\r\nIn de installatie D’Est: au bord de la fiction worden de beelden van de experimentele documentaire opgedeeld over 24 schermen, gegroepeerd in triptieken. De fragmenten binnen deze triptieken harmoniëren met elkaar in beweging, kleur en vorm. Op het 25ste scherm vertelt de cineaste off screen over haar drijfveren en het project.\r\nD’Est wordt gekenmerkt door de typische Akerman-ingrediënten: de grensvervaging tussen documentaire en fictie, travels en statische shots, tijd en duur, observatie en esthetiek, portretten van landschappen, steden en (wachtende) mensen."},{"locale":"fr","short_description":"","description":"Le point de départ du documentaire D'Est est une série de voyages en Europe Centrale et Europe de l'Est que Chantal Akerman effectue entre 1991 et 1993, juste après la chute du Mur de Berlin : un récit de voyage du printemps en Allemagne de l'Est, de l'été en Pologne et en Ukraine et de l'hiver à Moscou.\r\nDans l'installation D’Est : au bord de la fiction, des images du documentaire expérimental sont réparties sur 24 écrans regroupés en triptyques, au sein desquels les extraits s'harmonisent sur le plan du mouvement, de la couleur et de la forme. Sur le 25e écran, on entend la voix de la cinéaste hors champ qui relate le projet et ce qui l'a motivée à le réaliser.\r\nD’Est comporte les éléments propres à l'œuvre d'Akerman : les limites floues entre documentaire et fiction, les longs travellings et les prises de vue statiques, le temps et la durée, l'observation et l'esthétique, les portraits de paysages, de villes et de personnes (qui attendent)."},{"locale":"ru","short_description":"","description":""},{"locale":"de","short_description":"","description":""},{"locale":"es","short_description":"","description":""},{"locale":"el","short_description":"","description":""}],"actors":[{"id":679,"name":"Chantal Akerman","category":{"en":"Other","nl":"Andere","fr":"Autre"}}]}
